덴마크의 LiqTech사는 자사 브랜드의 실리콘 카바이드(Silicon Carbide) 멤브레인 제품에 대한 NSF/ANSI 61 인증을 신청해 최종승인을 획득, 음용수 공급용에 사용이 가능해졌다고 밝혔다.
이번 인증은 물에 접촉하는 물질에서 유해한 물질이 검출되지 않는 등 성능기준의 표준으로 NSF 협회에 의하여 독성 검사 및 제조공장의 실사 검사에서도 인정됐다. 이 멤브레인은 세라믹재질의 멤브레인으로 샌드필터, 카트리지 필터, 일반 폴리머 재질의 멤브레인에 대한 대체용으로 사용 가능하며 여러 장점을 갖고 있다.
즉, 철·비소·망간 물질이 함유된 지하수처리, 부유성 유기물 함유된 지표수처리, 해수담수화 RO 공정의 전처리 사용 등 다양한 적용이 가능하다.

LiqTech membranes get drinking-water certification
The silicon carbide (SiC) membranes manufactured and marketed by Danish company LiqTech International Inc have been tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 61, which means they are now approved for usage in drinking water systems.
The NSF/ANSI 61 is a performance-based standard which ensures that components used in water treatment systems are not leaching any harmful substances (ie, metals such as lead, chemicals, toxins etc).
All of LiqTech's SiC membranes product offerings have successfully passed the toxicological testing required by the NSF. In addition, in order to receive this certification, LiqTech's production (facility) had successfully been audited by NSF.
LiqTech's SiC ceramic membranes can be used to replace sand filters, cartridge filters and traditional polymer/ceramic membranes. The potential for SiC membranes in the drinking water production is diverse and the benefits numerous.
Some applications are, but not limited to, groundwater with the removal of precipitated salts like iron, arsenic and manganese; surface water with the removal of organic suspended solids and humic acid; and seawater for prefiltration before reverse osmosis.
