[미국] 위드라쿠치 수질관리공장, 앞당겨 개방
파슨스(Parsons)사는 최근 조지아주(Georgia) 위드라쿠치(Withlacoochee) 강의 수질관리 공장(WPCP)과 발도스타(Valdosta)의 새로운 작업장의 개최식을 가졌다. 이는 예정보다 약 16개월 미리 이뤄진 것이며 행사에는 도시 공무원들과 지자체 의원, 프로젝트 팀들이 다수 참석했다. 이번 WPCP 프로젝트에서 파슨스사는 설계사이자 시공사, 공사 관리사 역할을 모두 담당했다.
지난 2009년 재앙같은 홍수를 겪은 후 발도스타 시는 하수 범람 등 다양하고 복합적인 문제들로 몸살을 앓은 바 있다. 새로운 공장은 기존의 것보다 해발 고도 약 60피트 높이 위치해 있으며, 처리 기준을 훨씬 능가하는 최신식의 기술을 보유하고 있다. 파슨스사는 두 개의 펌프장과 동력 저장장치 등을 포함, 설비를 완료했다.
파슨스사의 회장인 Mike Walsh는 “파슨스는 발도스타시를 위해 효율적이고 비용도 절감하는 솔루션을 약 1년 정도 예정보다 일찍 만들어냈다”며 “새로운 WPCP는 위드라쿠치 강으로 들어가는 폐기물의 오염물질을 98% 이상 제거하는 등 기본 요구사항을 능가한다”라고 말했다.
이로 인해 파슨스사는 환경적으로 책임질 수 있는 물과 폐수 솔루션을 제공할 수 있게 됐다.

Georgia's Withlacoochee Water Pollution Control Plant opens ahead of schedule
Parsons recently celebrated the opening of the Withlacoochee Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) and new force main in Valdosta, GA, with city officials, community members, and project teams -- 16 months ahead of schedule. Parsons was the design-builder for the WPCP project and the designer and construction manager for the force main project.
After a disastrous flood in 2009, the city of Valdosta suffered from compound problems that led to years of sewage overflows into yards and rivers. The new facility is located nearly 60 ft higher in elevation than its predecessor and incorporates state-of-the-art technology to surpass discharge requirements. Parsons’ design included a two-pump station alternative, and power savings from this option more than offset the cost of the additional pump station.
"Parsons created an efficient, cost-effective solution for Valdosta that opened more than a year ahead of schedule," said Mike Walsh, Parsons Group President. "The new WPCP exceeds regulatory requirements, removing more than 98% of pollutants before discharge into the Withlacoochee River."
Parsons delivers environmentally responsible water and wastewater solutions using traditional delivery methods as well as design-build, construction manager at-risk, and other performance-based contracts that help customers provide the highest value to their constituents.
