Supplies run dry after pipe collapses at Pt Lisas Desalination Plant

Emergency repairs are underway at Pt Lisas Desalination Plant in Trinidad and Tobago, after part of a pipeline collapsed leaving residents without water, reports the Trinidad Express.

The disruption to supplies is expected to end today, Wednesday, 14 September 2016. Trinidad and Tobago's Water and Sewerage Authority is redistributing water from the Navet Water Treatment Plant and Point Fortin Desalination Plant during the outage.

Pt Lisas Desalination Plant is owned and operated by Desalcott (Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago). Desalcott was originally a joint venture between Trinidadian company Hafeez Karamath Engineering Services and General Electric, but GE was bought out in 2012.

Desalcott is contracted to supply 182,000㎥/d of desalinated water to the local Water and Sewerage Authority for municipal and industrial use.
