합성 다이아몬드 재료 생산 및 The De Beers(드 비어스) Group of Group의 회원사인 Element Six의 DIAMOX ™ 폐수처리 기술이 Edison Awards에서 최고 영예를 차지하면서 환경품질 부문에서 금상을 수상했다.
수상자는 2017년 4월 20일 뉴욕에서 개최 된 제30회 에디슨 시상식에서 발표되었다. 에디슨상은 혁신에 대한 가장 권위 있는 상중의 하나이며 신제품 및 서비스 개발, 마케팅, 인간 중심 디자인 및 혁신 부문에서 탁월한 성과를 인정받은 제품·기술 등에 대해 시상을 한다.
오염이 심한 산업폐수를 처리하도록 설계된 DIAMOX는 합성 다이아몬드 전극을 사용하여 물에 용해된 오염물질을 미네랄화하는 전기화학 셀이다. 이러한 오염된 하·폐수를 세정하기 위한 종래의 방법은 전형적으로 다단계 공정에서 부가적인 UV 및 강한 표백제와 같은 화학물질을 사용하여 전기화학전지를 사용하는 것을 포함한다.

Element Six onsite wastewater treatment technology wins gold at 2017 Edison awards
Element Six, a world leader in synthetic diamond supermaterials and member of The De Beers Group of Companies, announced today that its DIAMOX™ wastewater treatment technology earned top honors in the Edison Awards, winning the gold prize in the environmental quality category.
Winners were announced at the 30th annual Edison Awards ceremony held in New York on April 20, 2017. The Edison Award is one of the most prestigious accolades for innovation and recognizes excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design and innovation.
Designed to treat highly contaminated industrial wastewater, DIAMOX is an electrochemical cell that utilizes synthetic industrial diamond electrodes to mineralize dissolved pollutants in the water.
Previous methods for cleaning such contaminated wastewater have typically involved using electrochemical cells, with additional UV and strong bleach-like chemicals in a multi-step process. DIAMOX enables this process to become purely electrochemical, which is simpler and safer to operate, cost effective and more environmentally sustainable.
Pilot studies of DIAMOX have demonstrated that this single step process can treat the water to a degree that it is safe to put back into the environment. It is successful in treating even the most formidable industrial wastewaters that are difficult or impossible to treat by conventional means.

To date, DIAMOX technology has been successfully used for the treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater, textile dye house wastewater treatments, and refinery spent caustics treatment.
