[카타르] 스웨덴과 태양열·풍력이용 담수화 프로젝트 공동개발
유럽 및 중동 국가들이 협력하여 재생 가능한 담수화 규모를 확대하기 위해 글로벌 경쟁에 뛰어들 것으로 전망된다.
스웨덴과 카타르는 북쪽지역의 풍력발전 및 태양열발전 담수화 프로젝트를 준비하기 위해 공동으로 협력하기로 제휴했다. 담수화 과정은 태양에서 200MW(메가와트)와 풍력에서 추가로 200MW를 이용하여 1㎥당 1달러의 물을 생산할 계획이다.
카타르 현지 소식통에 따르면, 오스카 스텐스트롬(Oscar Stenstrom) 스웨덴 무역장관은 카타르에 "고온, 모래, 먼지 등 기후와 관련된 기술적 측면을 협의할 기술 워크샵이 곧 개최될 것”이라고 밝혔다. 카타르 전기 및 수도 공사인 카흐라마(Kahramaa)와 생산회사인 Qatar Electricity and Water Company(QEWC)는 스웨덴 회사 Monsson Energy AB 및 Sweco AB 등이 이 프로젝트에 참여할 것으로 예상된다.
카타르는 사우디 아라비아와 UAE를 포함한 26개국 중 스웨덴의 수출 우선 시장 중 하나이다. 2016년 스웨덴은 2016년 QR500m의 상품을 카타르에 수출했다.
역사적으로, 카타르의 식수의 대부분은 대규모 열을 이용한(증발식) 담수화 플랜트에 의해 제공되었다. 5월초 카타르에서 가장 큰 발전소와 해수담수화 생산기지로 확장되면서 멤브레인 기반 담수화로의 전환이 시작됐다.
스웨덴-카타르 재생 담수화 프로젝트는 아부다비(Abu Dhabi), 라스 알 카이마(Ras Al Khaimah ) 및 사우디 아라비아는 이미 소규모의 재생 가능한 담수화 프로젝트에 합류했다.

Solar·wind powered desalination project to be co-developed by Sweden & Qatar
European and Middle Eastern nations are set to collaborate and join the global race to scale up renewable powered desalination.
Sweden and Qatar have partnered to set up a wind and solar powered desalination project in the north of the country.
It’s anticipated that the desalination process would take 200 megawatts from solar and a further 200 megawatts from wind power, producing water at a cost of US$1 per cubic metre.
Qatari local source The Peninsula reported that Oscar Stenstrom, Swedish vice minister of trade said there would soon be technical workshops in Qatar to “fine tune some technical aspects” relating to a climate which is “rough with high temperature, sand, dust”.
Utility Kahramaa and production company Qatar Electricity and Water Company(QEWC) are expected to be involved in the project, as well as Swedish companies Monsson Energy AB and Sweco AB.
Qatar is one of Sweden’s priority markets for export, among 26 countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE. In 2016, Sweden exported goods worth QR500m to Qatar in 2016.
Historically, the majority of Qatar’s drinking water has been provided by large-scale thermal desalination plants. Earlier this month, an extension to one of the country’s largest power and water complexes marked the start of a transition to membrane-based desalination (read article).
The Swedish/Qatari renewable desalination project joins the list of small scale, renewable powered desalination projects in the region, with Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Saudi Arabia having already put their hats into the ring.
