[미국] QHY그룹, CSIRO와 PFAS 화학물질 제거 위한 폐수처리 기술평가 협약
미국 네바주에 있는 QHY그룹은 지난 5월 30일 과학연구를 담당하는 독립적인 호주 연방 정부기관인 CSIRO(Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization)와 기술평가 계약을 체결했다. 페수처리의 평가 결과는 QHY 그룹의 요청에 따라 보고될 예정이다.
미국 환경보호국(US EPA)에 따라 PFAS는 PFOA, PFOS, GenX 및 기타 여러 화학물질을 포함하는 인조 화학물질 그룹이다.
PFAS는 1940년대 이후 미국을 비롯하여 전 세계 여러 산업에서 제조되고 사용되고 있다. PFOA와 PFOS는 이 화학물질에 대해 가장 광범위하게 생산되고 연구되어 왔다. 두 화학 물질은 환경과 인체에 매우 흡사하다. 즉, 분해되지 않고 시간이 지남에 따라 축적될 수 있다. PFAS에 노출되면 인체 건강에 악영향을 미칠 수 있다는 증거가 있다.
연구에 따르면 PFOA와 PFOS는 실험 동물에서 생식과 발달, 간 및 신장 및 면역학적 효과를 유발할 수 있다. 두 화학물질 모두 동물에서 종양을 일으켰다. 가장 일관된 결과는 출생 인구 중 콜레스테롤 수치가 증가하고 저체중 출생 체중, 면역 체계, 암(PFOA) 및 갑상선 호르몬 파괴(PFOS)와 관련된 결과가 제한적이라는 점이다.
미국 EPA는 PFAS의 문제를 해결하기 위해 주, 부족 및 지역 사회를 지원하기 위한 조치를 취하기 시작했으며, PFOA 청지기 프로그램, PFOA로 오염 된 지하수를 처리하기 위한 임시 권고 초안 및 PFOS 등이다.
연방기금으로 조성된 과학연구는 호주에서 102년 전에 시작되었고 CSIRO의 전임 자문위원은 1916년 자문위원 회의(CISA)의 자문위원회(Council of Science and Industry)가 설립되었으며, 그 주요 역할은 지역 사회의 이익을 위해 산업의 경제적 사회적 성과를 향상시키는 것이다.

QHY Group Entered Into Agreement With CSIRO To Evaluate Its Technology For PFAS Chemicals Removal From Wastewater
QHY Group recently announced that on May 30, 2019 it has entered into a Technology Evaluation Agreement with Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), an independent Australian federal government agency responsible for scientific research, to evaluate its technology for removal of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals from wastewater. The results of the evaluation will be reported upon QHY Group's request.
Pursuant to United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals that includes PFOA, PFOS, GenX, and many other chemicals.
PFAS have been manufactured and used in a variety of industries around the globe, including in the United States since the 1940s. PFOA and PFOS have been the most extensively produced and studied of these chemicals. Both chemicals are very persistent in the environment and in the human body - meaning they don't break down and they can accumulate over time. There is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse human health effects. Studies indicate that PFOA and PFOS can cause reproductive and developmental, liver and kidney, and immunological effects in laboratory animals. Both chemicals have caused tumors in animals.
The most consistent findings are increased cholesterol levels among exposed populations, with more limited findings related to low infant birth weights, effects on the immune system, cancer (for PFOA), and thyroid hormone disruption (for PFOS). US EPA has started to taken actions to support states, tribes and local communities in addressing challenges with PFAS, and identify solutions to address PFAS in the environment, including but not limited to PFOA Stewardship Program, Draft Interim Recommendations for Addressing Groundwater Contaminated with PFOA and PFOS, etc.
Federally funded scientific research began in Australia 102 years ago and CSIRO's predecessor the Advisory Council of Science and Industry was established in 1916, and its chief role is to improve the economic and social performance of industry for the benefit of the community. CSIRO works with leading organizations around the world. From its headquarters in Canberra, CSIRO maintains more than 50 sites across Australia and in France, Chile and the United States, employing about 5500 people. CSIRO has succeeded in many notable inventions and breakthroughs in many areas.
