[미국] 블루그린워터, 캘리포니아서 '레이크 가드 옥시' 승인 받아
블루그린워터 테크놀로지스(BlueGreen Water Technologies)는 미국 주에서 상업적으로 적용 할 수 있는 해조류인 '레이크 가드 옥시(Lake Guard Oxy)'에 대해 캘리포니아 살충제 규제 부로부터 승인을 받았다.
이 회사에 따르면, 2020년에는 해안뿐만 아니라 몇몇 주의 호수에서 '푸른 녹조(blue green algae)'와 '적조(red tide)'라고도 불리는 유독성 녹조현상이 두드러지게 증가했다고 한다.
'레이크 가드 옥시(Lake Guard Oxy)'가 상업적으로 이용됨에 따라, 그 회사는 주, 지방 공무원, 그리고 개인 호수 소유주들이 비용 효율적일 뿐만 아니라 수생태계를 빠르게 회복시키는 녹색 해결책으로 유독성 꽃(toxic blooms)들을 퇴치할 수 있을 것이라고 말했다.
'레이크 가드 옥시(Lake Guard Oxy)'는 효과를 발휘하는 데 몇 시간밖에 걸리지 않는 간단한 응용 과정을 통해 수체에 적용될 수 있다.
적용 시, 블루 그린의 제품은 물의 자연적인 전류 움직임에 의해 자동으로 운반된다.
이 제품의 과립은 독성 녹말 골재로 뿔을 '잠금(lock horns)'시킨 다음, 시안박테리아(cyanobacteria’s)의 자연적 '자살(suicide)' 반응을 유발하여 선택적으로 제거하는데, 이 반응으로 인해 다른 유익한 종들이 진공상태에서 자라게 된다.

이 회사는 2019년 8월 오하이오 주에서 가장 큰 내륙 자연 호수인 치페와 호수(Chippewa Lake)에서 첫 미국 치료를 마쳤다. 이 치료법은 호수에서 5년간의 독성 수준을 깨는데 도움을 주었고 그 이후로 유독성 조류에서 벗어났다고 회사는 주장했다.
이 회사는 현재 플로리다의 미니놀라 호수(Lake Minneola)에서 향후 녹조를 예방하고 있다.

BlueGreen Water Technologies gets approval in California for Lake Guard Oxy
BlueGreen Water Technologies has secured approval from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation for its algaecide, Lake Guard Oxy, for commercial application in the US state.
According to the firm, in the past year, there has been a marked rise in the severity of toxic algal blooms, also called as ‘blue green algae’ and ‘red tide’ in several of the state’s lakes as well as on the coasts.
With the commercial availability of Lake Guard Oxy, the company stated that the state, and local officials, and private lake owners will be able to combat the toxic blooms with a green solution that is not only cost-effective but also quick in restoring aquatic ecosystems.
The Lake Guard Oxy can be applied to water body using a simple application process, which takes only a few hours to become effective.
When applied, BlueGreen’s product is carried autonomously by the water’s natural current movement.
The product’s granules ‘lock horns’ with toxic algal aggregates and then eliminates them selectively by triggering the cyanobacteria’s natural ‘suicide’ response, which in turn allows other beneficial species to grow in the vacated ecological vacuum created.
BlueGreen CEO, Eyal Harel said: “As global warming continues to threaten our waterways and aquatic ecosystems, it is more important than ever to restore our earth’s most precious resource ? water."
"The State of California’s commercial application certification means that the treatment and even prevention of toxic algal blooms are now within reach.”
BlueGreen Water Technologies products are claimed to be US EPA-approved and NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 certified for treating drinking water.
The firm finished its first US treatment at Chippewa Lake, which is the largest inland natural lake in Ohio in August 2019. This treatment helped in breaking five years of toxicity levels in the lake, and since then has been free of toxic algae, claimed the company.
The firm is currently remediating and preventing future algal blooms in Lake Minneola of Florida.
