일본의 도레이(Toray Industries, Inc.)는 사우디아라비아 ‘라빅 3 담수화 플랜트(Rabigh 3 Desalination Plan)’에 대한 역삼투압막(RO membrane) 공급을 수주했다고 10월 7일 발표했다. 하루 생산능력이 60만㎥인 담수화 플랜트는 사우디 최대 SWRO(Seawater reverse osmosis ; 해수 역삼투 방식) 플랜트일 뿐만 아니라 세계 최대 SWRO 플랜트 중 하나가 된다.

 

사우디아라비아 담맘(Dammam)에 위치한 도레이(Toray)의 현지 자회사인 도레이 멤브레인 미들 이스트 LLC(Toray Membrane Middle East LLC ; TMME)는 RO 멤브레인을 공급하고 기술 서비스를 제공한다. 

 

도레이는 현지 서비스 강화라는 회사의 원칙에 따라 TMME는 중동 지역의 물 부족 문제를 해결하기 위해 현지 생산 제품을 공급하고 시운전 지원 및 부품 검사 서비스를 제공하여 궁극적으로 세계의 안정적인 에너지 공급에 기여할 계획이다.

 

걸프 국가들은 증가하는 인구를 수용하기 위해 기반 시설에 광범위하게 투자하고 있다. 충분한 식수 확보를 위해 담수화 플랜트 건설 계획을 추진하고 있다. 환경발자국(environmental footprint)에 대한 인식이 높아지고 비용 절감이 가능해짐에 따라 기존 증발 방식보다 에너지를 덜 소모하는 RO 담수화 플랜트의 건설이 증가하고 있다.

 

‘라빅 3 담수화 플랜트’의 RO 멤브레인 공급 수주는 도레이의 10년 이상의 견실한 담수화 레퍼런스, 운영 실적, 지역에서의 과거 경험을 바탕으로 한 효율적인 제안으로 실현됐다.

 

도레이는 수년에 걸쳐 RO 멤브레인 판매, 생산 및 기술 지원을 확대하여 전 세계의 물 문제를 해결하는 데 도움을 주고 있다. 응용 프로그램은 담수화, 하·폐수 재생 및 산업 용도로 확장되어 9천140만㎥/일 이상의 총 누적 물 생산 능력을 달성했는데, 이는 6억4천만 명 또는 세계 인구의 약 8%가 필요로 하는 물을 공급하는 양과 같다.

Toray Industries, Inc., announced today that it has received reverse osmosis (RO) membrane supply order for Rabigh 3 Desalination Plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Not only will the 600,000m3/day Desalination Plant be the largest SWRO plant in country, it will also be one of the largest SWRO plants in the world. 

 

Toray Membrane Middle East LLC (TMME), Toray’s local subsidiary located in Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will supply the RO membranes and provide technical services. 

 

In keeping with its company principle of reinforcing local services, TMME will supply locally manufactured product, provide commissioning support and autopsy service to help resolve water shortages in the Middle East, which will also ultimately contribute to stable energy supplies to the world.

 

Gulf countries are investing extensively in infrastructure to cater to rising populations. They are pushing ahead with plans to build desalination plants to secure sufficient drinking water. With increasing awareness of environmental footprints and cost reduction, construction of RO Desalination Plants which consume less energy than conventional evaporation method is increasing.

 

The award of RO membrane supply order for Rabigh 3 Desalination Plant was realized from Toray’s solid desalination reference over a decade, operation record, and efficient proposal based on past experience in the region.

 

Over the years, Toray has expanded its RO membrane sales, production, and technical support to help resolve water issues around the globe. Applications extend from desalination, wastewater reclamation and industrial usage, achieving the total accumulated water production capacity of over 91,400,000m3/day, which is equivalent to serve the water needs of 640 million people, or around 8% of the world’s population.

 

Ensuring supplies of safe and clean water is Toray’s top theme announced both in “Toray Group Sustainability Vision” on July 2018 and in “Toray Vision 2030” on May 2020.
