미국 수자원위원회(The Water Council, TWC)는 업계 리더들의 물 분야 과제 해결을 돕기 위해 오는 11월 5일까지 ‘테크 챌린지(Tech Challenge)’ 신청을 접수한다고 밝혔다.

매년 봄, 가을에 개최되는 테크 챌린지는 후원사의 후원을 받아 개최되며, 후원사에서 선정하는 주제로 진행된다. 

이번 테크 챌린지는 A. O. 스미스(A. O. Smith Corporation), 배저 미터(Badger Meter) 및 와츠 워터 테크놀로지(Watts Water Technologies) 3개 회사가 후원한다.

올해 주제는 △시설 또는 사용 지점 규모(point-of-use scale)의 식수에서 과불화합물(PFAS)  파괴 및 처리 △시설 또는 사용 지점 규모의 식수에서 PFAS 검출 △가압배관의 비파괴 구조해석이다. 

또한 수자원위원회는 올가을 미국 비영리단체 그린호수 협회(Green Lake Association)를 대표해 과도한 인 부하를 해결하는 솔루션(기술, 재료, 시스템 또는 엔지니어링 등)을 찾기 위한 정보 요청(RFI)을 수행하고 있다.

테크 챌린지 결선 진출자는 후원자에게 자신의 혁신적인 솔루션을 선보이며, 상금, 기업 R&D 자원에 대한 접근 기회 및 기술이나 아이디어의 개발, 마케팅, 라이선스 또는 판매에 대한 파트너 관계를 맺을 수 있는 기회를 놓고 경쟁할 기회를 얻는다.

대회 참가는 개인, 대학생 또는 연구원, 기업가, 물 전문가, 민간 및 정부 연구소 등 선정된 주제에 대해 참신한 솔루션을 제공하는 누구나 참가할 수 있다. 

대회가 종료된 후에는 기업 R&D 팀 후원자가 신청서를 심사하며, 수상자를 선정해 후원자들에게 발표한다.

수상자는 최대 1만 달러의 상금을 받을 수 있고, 시장 선도업체와의 잠재적인 공동 사업화 기회를 얻을 수 있다. 또한 후원 기업의 연구 및 개발(R&D) 담당자에게 전문 지식 및 피드백 지원을 받을 수 있다.

기술 챌린지 신청과 RFI에 대한 응답은 11월 5일까지다.

The Water Council is accepting applications to our Tech Challenge through Nov. 5. This session’s topics, chosen by our sponsors A. O. Smith Corporation, Badger Meter and Watts Water Technologies, are:

■ Destruction and treatment of PFAS in drinking water at facility or point-of-use scale
■ PFAS detection in drinking water at facility or point-of-use scale
■ Non-destructive structural analysis of pressurized pipes

TECH CHALLENGE MATCHES PROMISING INNOVATIVE WATER TECHNOLOGIES TO COMPANIES SEEKING NOVEL SOLUTIONS—ACCELERATING INNOVATION FOR ALL

The semi-annual Tech Challenge program connects water innovators to innovative water users through topic-specific open innovation contests. Tech Challenge finalists win the opportunity to present their innovation to company sponsors to compete for prize money, access to corporate R&D resources and the opportunity to partner on the development, marketing, licensing or sale of the technology or idea. Tech Challenge company sponsors save time in surfacing water and water-adjacent technologies by tapping into our powerful global network to find new ideas, talent and investment opportunities quickly and efficiently.

HOW TECH CHALLENGE WORKS

Targeted topics are selected by sponsoring companies, with challenges held each spring and fall. Water technology innovators from anywhere in the world—including inventive individuals, university students or researchers, water professionals or private sector and government labs—are invited to apply. After the close of the competition, applications are reviewed by our corporate R&D team sponsors. Winners are chosen and get the opportunity to present to sponsors and compete for:

■ A top prize of $10,000
■ Opportunity for potential joint commercialization with market leaders
■ Access to sponsoring companies’ R&D team expertise and feedback
