미국 임산물협회(The American Forest&Paper Association, AF&PA)는 11월 10일(현지시각) '더 나은 관행, 더 나은 지구 2030 지속 가능성상(Better Practices, Better Planet 2030 Sustainability Award)' 수상자를 발표했다. 이 상은 종이 및 목재 제품 제조 분야에서 지속 가능성 프로그램과 이니셔티브의 성과를 인정한다.

헤이디 브록(Heidi Brock) AF&PA의 회장은 "이 지속가능성상은 우리의 목표를 실천하는 예시"라며 "지금껏 우리는 지속가능성상에 대한 가장 많은 신청을 접수받았고, 이 상을 수여하게 돼 매우 기쁘게 생각한다"고 말했다.

브록 회장은 이어 "안전, 지속 가능성, 다양성, 형평성 및 포용성을 발전하기 위해 산업 전반에서 수행되는 혁신적인 작업에 큰 가치를 둔다"고 덧붙였다.

'더 나은 관행, 더 나은 지구(Better Practices, Better Planet)'은 미국 제조업에서 가장 오래된 지속 가능성 이니셔티브 중 하나로, 10년 전에 설립됐다.

지속 가능성상 수상자는 지속 가능한 미래를 위해 지속 가능한 제품을 발전시키기 위한 업계의 오랜 헌신을 보여준다. 2023년 지속 가능성상 수상자는 △클렘슨 대학교(Clemson University) △미국 에너지부(DOE) △그린블루(Greenblue) △미국 전국제조업자협회(National Association of Manufacturers) △퓨어 스트래티지스(Pure Strategies) △위스콘신대학교 스티븐스 포인트(University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point)의 대표로 구성된 심사위원단으로부터 선정됐다.

AF&PA의 2023년 지속 가능성상 수상자는 △안전 부문: 조지아 퍼시픽 LLC(Georgia-Pacific LLC)의  세이브 마이 라이프 디지털 워크 프로세스(Save My Life Digital Work Process) △순환 가치사슬 부문: 그래픽 패키징 인터내셔널 LLC(Graphic Packaging International, LLC)의 보디오 피버 베이스 보틀(Boardio Fiber-based Bottle) △물관리 부문: 사피(Sappi North America)의 클로켓 밀 배출 TSS 저감 프로젝트(Cloquet Mill Effluent TSS Reduction Project) △온실가스 감축 부문: 소노코 프로덕트 컴퍼니(Sonoco Products Company)의 재생 가능한 천연가스 프로젝트(Renewable Natural Gas Project) △회복성 있는 미국 숲 부문: 인터내셔널 페이퍼(International Paper)의 산림조류 인식과 보전 증진(Promoting Forest Bird Awareness and Conservation) 등이 선정됐다. 선정된 8개 기업은 지속 가능성, 다양성 등 분야에서 탁월한 이니셔티브를 인정받았다.

브라이언 맥필리(Brian McPheely) AF&PA의 이사회 의장이자 프랫 인터스트리(Pratt Industries Inc.)의 글로벌 CEO는 "올해는 다양한 프로젝트와 이니셔티브를 강조할 예정"이라며 "이 상은 우리 업계가 '더 나은 관행, 더 나은 지구 2030 목표'를 어떻게 진전하는지를 보여준다"고 밝혔다.

AF&PA Announces 2023 Award-Winning Sustainability Projects

8 Member Companies Recognized for Outstanding Initiatives in Sustainability, Innovation and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 

WASHINGTON – The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) today announced its Better Practices, Better Planet 2030 Sustainability Award winners. The awards recognize exemplary sustainability programs and initiatives in the paper and wood products manufacturing.

“Our sustainability awards are outstanding examples of our goals in action,” said AF&PA President and CEO Heidi Brock. “We received our highest number of sustainability awards applications to date. We are so pleased to present these awards and deeply value the innovative work being done across our industry to advance safety, sustainability, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Better Practices, Better Planet is one of the longest standing sustainability initiatives for a U.S. manufacturing industry. The program was established more than a decade ago.

The sustainability award winners demonstrate the industry’s long-held commitment to improving practices that advance sustainable products for a sustainable future. The 2023 Sustainability Award winners were selected by a judging panel with representatives from Clemson University, the Department of Energy, GreenBlue, the National Association of Manufacturers, Pure Strategies and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
