ABB는 실시간 수질 모니터링과 테스트를 지원하는 혁신적인 광학 센서 기술의 선두기업 리얼 테크(Real Tech)를 인수한다고 발표했다. 

ABB는 이번 인수를 통해 물 부문에서 강력한 입지를 확보하고, 스마트 물 관리에 중요한 광학 센서 기술을 도입해 제품 포트폴리오를 보완할 예정이다. 

시간이 많이 소요되는 전통적인 수질 측정과 달리 리얼 테크의 제품은 실시간으로 측정 결과를 제공한다. 이를 통해 공정 제어를 개선하고, 지속적인 수질 보증이 가능하다. 리얼 테크의 특허 받은 솔루션은 데이터 생성 및 분석에 중점을 두고 수질 모니터링을 위해 디지털 워터 벨류 체인 전체를 다룬다.

리얼 테크의 제품군에는 광학 센서와 컨트롤러 그리고 고객의 요구에 따라 각 시스템을 구성할 수 있는 옵션 제품이 포함된다.

센서는 빛의 힘을 활용해 물의 성분을 측정한다. 분광광도법과 형광 측정 기술을 사용해 실시간 사용을 위해 테스트를 실험실에서 공정 환경으로 이동한다. 

또한 독점 AI 소프트웨어 플랫폼인 리퀴드 AI(Liquid AI)는 리얼 테크 센서의 데이터를 쉽고 정확하게 분석하는 방법을 제공한다. 이 회사는 약 40명의 직원을 두고 있으며, 캐나다 온타리오주 휘트비에 소재한다.

자크 멀버트는 ABB 측정&분석(Measurement & Analytics)부서 사장은 “ABB의 새로운 동료들을 환영하게 돼 기쁘다”라며 “리얼 테크의 혁신과 성장 여정을 공동으로 추진하기를 기대한다”고 말했다. 또한  “ABB의 글로벌 판매 및 서비스 네트워크를 통해 리얼 테크의 기술 배포를 가속화해 시장 접근에 단계적 변화를 가져올 것”이라고 말했다. 

한편, UN에 따르면 22억 명의 사람들이 안전한 식수를 이용하지 못하고 있으며, 42억 명 이상의 사람들이 안전하게 관리되는 위생 시설을 이용하지 못하고 있다. 

동시에 전 세계에서 처리된 하수의 11%만이 재이용되고 있으며, 처리되지 않은 하수의 약 절반이 강, 호수 및 바다로 유입되고 있다. 

물 센서 기술과 인공 지능의 발전은 효율적인 물 및 하수 관리를 도울 수 있다. 수질 모니터링, 수처리 및 수질 인프라에 대한 투자는 전 세계적으로 급격히 확대되고 있으며, 미국에서는 10년 동안 물 인프라 개선에 전례 없는 1천110억 달러가 투자됐다.

ABB acquires innovative optical sensor company to expand smart water management offering

The acquisition positions ABB for growth opportunities resulting from the global push for sustainable water management

ABB today announced that it has agreed to acquire Canadian company Real Tech, a leading supplier of innovative optical sensor technology that enables real-time water monitoring and testing. Through the acquisition, ABB will expand its strong presence in the water segment and complement its product portfolio with optical technology critical for smart water management. Financial terms of the transaction that is expected to close in Q1 2024 were not disclosed.

Unlike traditional water quality measurement, which can be a time-consuming process, Real Tech’s product portfolio provides critical measurements in real-time. This enables better process control and continuous water quality assurance. Real Tech’s patented solutions cover the entire digital water value chain for water quality monitoring with a focus on data creation and analytics.

Real Tech’s portfolio includes optical sensors, controllers and a suite of optional accessories that allow each system to be configured according to customer needs. Leveraging the power of light, the sensors measure water composition. They use spectrophotometry and fluorescence measuring techniques to move testing from the lab to the process environment for real-time use. Liquid AI, a proprietary AI software platform, completes the service offering, providing an easy and accurate way to analyze data from Real Tech sensors. The company has approximately 40 employees and is based in Whitby, Ontario.®

According to the UN, 2.2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water, while more than 4.2 billion people lack safely managed sanitation. At the same time, only 11 percent of the world’s treated wastewater is reused and around half of the world’s untreated wastewater still enters rivers, lakes, and seas. Advancements in water sensor technology and artificial intelligence can aid in efficient water and wastewater management. Investment in water quality monitoring, water treatment and water infrastructure has expanded dramatically worldwide. In the US, an unprecedented $111 billion is being invested in upgrading water infrastructure over a 10-year period.
