FIDO 테크(FIDO Tech)는 물 분야 전문가가 물인프라에 대한 정확하고 정보에 입각한 의사결정을 내릴 수 있도록 지원하고 역량을 강화하기 위해 GPT-4 기반의 새로운 인공지능(AI) 가상 누수 비서를 출시했다고 밝혔다.

FIDO 테크가 출시한 'askFIDO'라는 가상 비서는 포털과 앱을 포함한 FIDO의 시스템과 플랫폼 전반에 걸쳐 선별된 데이터를 분석해 물전문가에게 명확한 지침을 제공한다.

AI 비서는 GPT-4를 활용해 문서, 데이터세트, 용어집을 통합하는 등 전문 비서 역할을  수행해 사용자가 전문가 수준의 지침과 지원에 접근할 수 있도록 한다.

GPT-4는 OpenAI가 개발한 대규모 언어 모델 시리즈 중 네 번째로, 매주 1억 명 이상의 사용자를 보유한 가장 빠르게 성장하고 있는 서비스 중 하나인 ChatGPT를 통해 공개된다.

ChatGPT는 인터넷에서 공개적으로 이용 가능한 정보에 접근해 질문에 답변하는 반면, AskFIDO는 GPT-4에 초점을 맞춰 FIDO의 수집, 선별 및 검증된 데이터에만 초점을 맞춘다.

이번 개발은 FIDO테크와 OpenAI의 파트너인 마이크로소트프(Microsoft)사 간의 광범위한 파트너십에 따른 것으로, 2030년으로 설정된 조직의 지속 가능성 및 물에 대한 긍정적인 야망의 일환으로 무수수량(NRW)을 줄이는 데 도움이 되는 실행 가능한 AI가 배포되고 있다.

파트너십은 현재 영국 런던을 시작으로 애리조나주 피닉스, 멕시코 케레타로 등 3개 지역에서 활발히 진행되고 있다.

AskFIDO는 FIDO의 하드웨어와 소프트웨어 생태계를 연결하는 도구로 작용해 사용자가 물유틸리티 문제를 어느 때보다 쉽게 찾고 해결할 수 있도록 한다.

새로운 서비스는 사용자와 대화를 나누는 것을 목표로 한다. 자연어와 간단한 인터페이스를 통해 경험이나 기술 수준에 관계없이 AI에 대한 접근을 대중화한다.

현재까지 FIDO 테크는 전 세계의 물유틸리티와 협력해 누수의 규모에 따라 순위를 매기는 실행 가능한 AI를 배포해 왔다.

예를 들어, DC Water에서 FIDO 팀은 이전에 발견되지 않았던 주요 누수를 성공적으로 식별했다. 여기에는 분당 약 130갤런의 누수로 인한 손실이 포함됐다.

세계은행에 따르면, 전 세계적으로 평균 30%의 물이 고객에게 도달하기도 전에 손실되며, 대부분 누수 등으로 인해 손실되는 것으로 추산된다. 개발도상국에서는 매일 약 4천500만㎥의 물이 손실되며, 이는 연간 30억 달러 이상의 가치와 맞먹는다.

A new artificial intelligence (AI) virtual leakage assistant powered by GPT-4 has been launched to support and empower water professionals to make accurate and informed decisions on water infrastructure.

Called ‘askFIDO’ and launched by FIDO Tech, the virtual assistant analyses curated data across FIDO’s systems and platforms, including the portal and app, to provide clear guidance to water professionals.

The AI assistant leverages GPT-4 to act as a specialised assistant, including integrating documentation, datasets and glossaries, allowing users to access expert-level guidance and support.

GPT-4 is the fourth in the series of large language models created by OpenAI and made publicly available via the organisation’s paid chatbot, ChatGPT, which continues to be one of the fastest-growing services with over one hundred million users per week.

While ChatGPT answers questions by accessing publicly available information on the internet, askFIDO instead focuses GPT-4 to focus only on FIDO’s collected, curated and verified data.

The development follows a broader partnership between FIDO Tech and OpenAI partner Microsoft, in which actionable AI is being deployed to help reduce utility non-revenue water (NRW) as part of the organisation’s sustainability and water-positive ambitions set for 2030.

The partnership is now active in three locations, starting in London, UK, before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, and then to Querétaro in Mexico.

askFIDO will act as a tool to bridge FIDO’s ecosystem of hardware and software, making it easier than ever for users to locate and solve water utility challenges.

The new offering aims to create a conversation with users. With natural language and a simple interface, it democratises access to AI, regardless of experience or skill level.

To date, FIDO Tech has been working with water utilities around the world to deploy actionable AI to rank leaks by size.

At DC Water, for example, the FIDO team successfully identified major leaks which had previously gone undetected. This included one leak losing an estimated 130 gallons per minute.

The World Bank estimates that as a global average, 30% of the world’s piped water is lost before it reaches the customer, most of it due to leaks and theft. In developing nations, roughly 45 million cubic metres of water are lost daily, worth over $3 billion per year.
